New CIP cleaning system with 3 circuits for a future-proof product line expansion
New vegan product lines require strict separation of dairy and soy allergens during the cleaning process. As part of the expansion to include a vegan soy cheese production facility, our long-standing client, the Bechtel private dairy in the Upper Palatinate, commissioned us to program and relocate an additional CIP system with three cleaning circuits. While the existing CIP system handles cleaning for the vegan production line, the new CIP system was integrated into the traditional dairy production line in just 4 months. In addition to scalability and strict hygiene requirements, the project focused on reducing the workload for operating personnel through automation.
In addition to programming the three CIP loops —including the caustic, acid, and fresh water tanks—we also implemented the communication between the CIP system, the objects to be cleaned, and the standalone tank farms. In addition, 35 objects had to be transferred from the existing CIP system to the “new” CIP system and removed.
Cleaning is one of the most important criteria for a dairy product of impeccable quality. That is why a properly functioning and optimally programmed CIP cleaning system is crucial for quality assurance and an efficient process.
Automated queue with prioritization.
The items to be cleaned automatically enter the CIP queue for cleaning immediately after production and are processed there using the correct cleaning recipes based on our automated job lists and selected priorities. The connected database organizes the jobs in the queue. The clear advantage: Thanks to process automation, the operator saves valuable time and reduces the potential for unnecessary errors. At the same time, the operator retains the ability to intervene manually or change the order of the queue if necessary.

To prevent downtime and production delays, the new CIP cleaning system was commissioned in stages and “on the fly.” For example, only the items connected to the same line were processed. While one item was being tested, the others could continue production.
